There are subtle differences between telemedicine, TeleHealth, TeleConsult, or Video Chat, and we know this is confusing to most of our patients. For simplicity’s sake, it is consulting with your primary care doctor over the phone or via video chat and now your doctor can get paid for their time, in part thanks to COVID-19 restrictions.

Doctors have been consulting remotely for decades since the invention of the telephone, however, they were not compensated for their time. Doctors of color — just like patients of color in the under-served communities — are subjected to various levels of the same discrimination. Let us speak truth to power. Ironically, this useful technology that has evaded under-served communities is now readily available because of COVID-19 restrictions as previously mentioned. Our heartfelt condolences go out to everyone who has lost a loved one to this deadly disease. The novel pandemic does not discriminate.
